Looks like we lost the space race... But at least we still have better musical taste. "you got taste, you got taste, what a shame if that's all that you have"
Eight riders from the globetrotting MASH SF crew plan to ride the entire 750 miles of the Amgen Tour of California on fixed gear bikes. The eight-member MASH unit plans to ride seven- to 12-hour days, leaving ahead of or after the peloton. These fixie hipsters even have sponsorship from CLIF BAR, which bills itself as the nutrition sponsor for MASH's Tour of California ride.
“We’ll be using the same bikes we ride every day,” said MASH rider Garrett Chow. “We ride them to get a burrito. We all cycle passionately when we can. It’s kind of like, ‘Why do people climb Everest? Because they can.’ We’re giving it 100 percent and seeing what we can do.”
Three riders from MASH appeared on stage with Garmin-Chipotle at a CLIF sponsored bike talk last night in Berkeley, California. Christian Vande Velde gave the MASH guys some grief about their equipment needs when he quipped, “I break my best stuff and they give me a new one right away. You guys are screwed!”
MASH cyclist Garrett Chow shot back, “We’ve got two spare tires and two spare chains. That out to get us through the nine stages.”
As the Garmin riders talked about preparing for the heavy rain anticipated over the next week, Chow revealed his team's plans for the weather: “Yeah, we brought two pairs of jeans.”
Anyone interested in getting out tomorrow night let me know. Downtown or Homewood work. There's some rough streets over here so I can go either way... 7ish. I know it's right before heartbreaks but ride w/ me and you'll have plenny-0-energy for the next day. If it's one or the other I recommend Heartbreaks.
Jarrod passed these pics to me this morning and they really got my stoke on. These pics of John Cardiel have really inspired me and make me want to call in sick and spend the rest of this Spring-like day riding, mashing or whatever the cool thing to say is.
Prolly on the new MKE everyone loves so much... Arkitip posted this blurry picture of what I'm calling a MASH jersey. The title of the post was MASH kit. If I were to wear a jersey, this would be a contender. If it is a jersey that is. It could be an army tank for all I can tell...
MKE's got pictures of their FGFS frame out. Pictured is a proto built for Prolly to test.
One interesting thing is that on the braked version, the cable is run through the steer tube. This allows the front wheel to rotate 360 w/ a brake. In the 80's it took a gyro or a ACS rotor (thanks Leo) to achieve the same thing. Crazy it could be that simple... I'm sure this has been done elsewhere previously but this is the first time I've noticed it.
Nice little sponsor list there. Guess I'll have to read about this one. I'd love to be around for it but I'll be listening to Barry White eating grapes in a hot tub somewhere w/ my better 3/8's. If you can make it to this or the after event I'm certain it won't disappoint.
And I think I was talking to Matty about how rad it'd be to build this wheel up. Chub and a H+.
Doesn't look like it's going to be all that bad...
Medicine for Melancholy
It's got a Saturday Looks Good to Me song playing in the trailer and it's a Strike Anywhere production...
American Justice American dream is this what ' the other half ' means half of our lives dissolved in fear half of our rights they disappear is our apathy so corrosive where does the cycle start hear the sirens screaming out in the distance hold your family close to your heart
So we're the last blog to pick this up but it's too exciting to skip.
Pictures of Charges new FGFS frameset have hit every blog from here to Hong Kong. Tom and Ted have no doubt influenced some of the geometry choices. The fork looks incredibly stout. The fork is notched and the drops are inserted in the tubing. Unicrown w/ very thick drops. Charge always does a clean job with their graphics as well. Placement color and design are best in the industry I'd say. Way better than Volume's playboy Scott Staph style graphics...
enough for now but left 153 out. It used to be that there was only 3-4 really good videos out there. Now there's not a day that passes w/o there being a new one that outdoes the last.
Had a blast riding w/ Aaron the last couple days. Sprints by Clay Sunday night going to be fun.
This might be old news but it's new to me. The Gabe Morford collection is now available. More info here: http://www.offthewallsite.com/2008/12/17/vans-syndicate-x-gabe-morford/
When I was 12 or so my friend Cary and I used to take mini-bmx bikes to church and stunt them on our Bibles during the sermon. Cherry Picker, Surfer, boomerangs were hard. This takes me way back.
Aaron and I took the whips for a new spin today. Much fun was had. The traveler now has a new home. Take care of her Jesse and thanks for all the assistance.
So I've been putting the bottom bracket on the new frame and I'm having problems. The spindle is too long. The kit came with a crap ton of spacers. I put them on next to the crank arms. Am I doing this right? Crap the what....
Getting out tonight @ 7. Meeting up in front of Gallery Lofts. Call me if you want to get the lead out.
I've let dozens of good videos slip thru the cracks these last couple weeks. There's so much coming up out there. Here's a goodie w/ Hfweido, LaMarch and Prolly to make it up to you.
I don't post too much from these guys. Mostly because of Jealousy. There's a broken record tailwhip attempt sequence that's really good and a rock walk kinda skid around deal that's also pretty legitimized.
New Cadence gear out in time for the holidays... Here's an item from the collection especially for Mark.
Most importantly, I'm going to be a father of a little bike riding dude in about 4 months. Most of you already knew this but just in case you didn't... Here's an ultrasound of my Milk Man just kicking it. Don't feel obligated to sit thru all 12 min.
Lastly and leastly, this will be my new post Christmas whip. I know a chrome fork and carbon seatpost make for an odd couple but you gotta play the hand you're dealt.
Rode w/ Aaron and Seth from Boston today. It was Slipperier when wet than New Jersey but fun was had none the less.
So things have been slow over here. Kinda like me in an alleycat. When we pass 5k hits on the site be ready for a meggapost! Heck Mark might even put up a new header and post an update.

Get on your respective whips and MASH up to your respective polling locations and Fill in some ovals! Go straight ticket R or D Whatever. Or write in Bob Barker like I did... JUST VOTE!
I'm still kinda floating after the fun that was had yesterday. There's a lot more people than Mark and I that made everything happen and there's a lot of thanks in order.

Thanks to...
Peter/Faith, I was pretty shocked when Mark told me how you were behind us. The shoes were a great prize and nothing could have been more appropriate.
Nonstop/Terrence/Chadence, The work you two did on the bag was some of the best I have ever seen. I know that you guys spent a lot of hours getting that thing to look as perfect as it did. It's in good well appreciating hands. Terry your filming editing is getting better and better. Thanks for putting the time in to documenting everything.
Primavera/Brett, Thanks for the three nickle bag hook up. Those beans will be pressed into highly regulated traffic MASHing.
Carrie/Elisa/Amanda/Triatha-Blog Great of you guys to throw in a great prize for us. Alan Farton is going to love sticking his nose in the latest issues of Urban Velo.
Vic/Twofivefix/Huntsville Your crew really shined. Taking home the best two prizes we had! We couldn't have played an ounce of polo w/o you bringing out the sets. I'm going to wear the Track-O-Bama shirt to the polls in the morning and we'll see what happens. The lights were a plus. You guys make great judges and even better riders. Come back soon Vic and let me pedal that Makino build around. It was great meeting you guys.
Urban Standard I think that I'm going to let my loyalty speak for itself. Tom & Eric, I'll see you Saturday for breakfast, lunch & dinner if I miss seeing you Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday morning. You guys have done a great thing and are a gleaming example of how to do "downtown" correctly. Keep it up Poland!
Aaron/Lane Woodworking Aaron, you built a heck of a ramp. Sorry I wasn't there to build it with you. I know you had a heck of a week. Congrats on the long skid and thanks for getting my feet wet with this craziness!
Lastly I have to say how horrible I feel about the insane spill Matt took during long skids. He's got a broken arm, 2 monster raspberries and went into the thing with a near 2nd degree burn from a grease fire. Feel better soon Matt! You got some tricks up your sleeve that this town needs to see.
Pictures of the event are here and here. Thanks Alan, Elisa & Jennifer for those.
